Meet Lemar Smith

As Senior IT Support Administrator at ghSMART, Lemar blends the comprehensive expertise he has gained over his career in technology with an appreciation for how people and infrastructure interact—providing a client-centric approach to ensuring computer systems function smoothly.

Tell us about your background before you landed at ghSMART.

I’ve always had a passion for tech, especially robotics, which led me to pursue a degree in computer systems engineering at university. During my final year at university, I got to experience robotics firsthand by being part of a team that competed in the robot Micromouse maze-solving competition—we finished third overall! It was an amazing opportunity to apply what I had learned about electronics, networking, cloud computing, programming, hardware, and IT infrastructure—all while pursuing a challenging competition. This experience further cultivated my passion for technology. The problem-solving skills I developed through robotics often come in handy in my work at ghSMART daily.

Over the years, I’ve gained valuable experience working across the software, cloud, and wealth management sectors, applying my skills in various real-world settings. My dad, who worked as a Senior IT Support Administrator at S&P Global, also inspired me to pursue this path.

Outside of tech, I was a middle-distance runner and passionate about football (soccer in the US), both of which taught me discipline and teamwork. I also found leadership opportunities in my local church community, which helped me grow personally.

What inspired you to join ghSMART?

I was drawn to ghSMART by the amazing people I met during the recruitment process. Their honesty, openness, and genuine passion for their roles and the firm really left a lasting impression on me.

What also stood out was how ghSMART truly lives up to its promise of freedom and flexibility. This mindset is something that’s genuinely part of the culture here.

Ultimately, it was the strong alignment between the firm’s values and my own that made joining an easy decision. And I’m happy to say that these values are still felt every day.

What does your day-to-day work at ghSMART look like?

In my day-to-day role as Senior IT Support Administrator, I collaborate with an amazing Tech Team to manage IT systems and resolve technical issues across the firm, supporting colleagues around the world. We work closely to prioritise tasks based on urgency, ensuring that operations run smoothly and securely, so everyone can perform at their best.

What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day tasks at ghSMART? How does your role contribute to the company’s growth?

In my role as a Senior IT Support Administrator, I help drive ghSMART's growth by ensuring our technology systems run smoothly and securely. By proactively tackling technical challenges and finding efficient solutions, I support our Consultants and Staff in delivering excellent service to our clients. It's also rewarding to feel, see, and experience the impact our consultants and staff are making in shaping the world. My work improves operational efficiency and helps the firm scale effectively.

What I enjoy most is the variety of challenges we tackle—it suits my working style perfectly. Each day brings something different, and the dynamic environment keeps me engaged and motivated. It's truly rewarding to know and see that what I do contributes to the bigger picture and supports ghSMART's mission.

What motivates you the most about your chosen career, especially when considering your current role?

I’m motivated by the technical growth and development my IT role offers, as well as the opportunity to support individuals who are driving world-changing work. The focus on values and the quality of work at ghSMART makes everything feel meaningful. It’s energising to know that I’m helping to support the broader goals of the firm while making a real impact. 

Beyond that, the supportive culture at ghSMART really empowers me to be myself at work. The firm values diverse backgrounds and perspectives, so I feel comfortable sharing my ideas and experiences openly. I'm encouraged to contribute authentically alongside some of the best minds and genuinely exceptional human beings at ghSMART. This environment not only boosts my confidence but also fosters genuine collaboration within the firm.

What do you appreciate most about the flexibility at ghSMART, and how does it enrich your life beyond work?

What I appreciate most is the genuine trust ghSMART places in us to manage our own time. This flexibility allows me to balance my work with personal commitments, like my health goals at the gym and middle-distance running, alongside my church commitments serving on the church board and as the Youth Leader. It enriches my life by giving me the space to pursue passions that keep me energised and motivated.

Looking ahead, what do you envision ghSMART becoming in the next 5-10 years?

Looking ahead, I see ghSMART further expanding its innovation and influence, not only in advisory services but also in how we help organisations build and sustain high-performing leadership teams. We’re well-positioned to set new benchmarks for leadership, both within management consultancy and beyond.
